Howard Boder - Keyboards, 12 string guitar

Howard was born in Hackney, making him a real London cockney. He started playing piano from the age of 3, and hasn’t stopped since. Howard discovered Genesis after hearing 'Hairless Heart' from The Lamb and then Supper's Ready at the tender age of 13.

Over the years, Howard has played in various bands (Black Magic, GBH, The Halts, Vale Crusis, Mental DK, Room 101, Room 102, Bruce's Spider and Crimson Altar). The most successful of these being Room 101, who performed several times at The Rock Garden in Covent Garden and at a variety of other venues around the UK during the 1980's.

Mike Morton - Vocals

Mike was born in Scotland and raised in South London, which means he’s always at home in the company of drunken cab drivers. He spent his early years wanting to be Marc Bolan. Then, at 13, his older cousin lent him a copy of ‘Genesis Live’. Mike had a moment of musical epiphany and has loved Genesis ever since (secretly longing to wear bat wings and foxes’ heads.) He first saw Genesis on the Trick of the Tail tour and reckons he’s never seen a better gig by anyone in the following 34 years.

Mike spent the early 80s working as an actor, but switched to singing in bands on the premise that he may as well really enjoy himself whilst making no money. Over the years he has fronted a number of original bands, including The Raincatchers and Paperhouse, both folk rock acts. However, his passion for progressive rock eventually led to the formation of The Gift, a band which has enjoyed some success with its brand of Genesis-styled music. Mike will continue to front The Gift, alongside his new role in The Book Of Genesis. He is delighted to have joined the fold, and is hoping that his 15-year-old son will be able to endure the sight of his dad "prancing around in fairyland".

Andy Daish - Drums, Voices, Bells and Whistles

Andy was first introduced to drumming by his cousin when he was about 8 yrs old. He has been playing drums since he was 19. He dabbled with Bass Guitar for a while but missed drumming so eventually went back to his first love.

He has played in a number of bands over the years, including 'The Queens' (a Queen Tribute band) and various other cover bands. One of the bands he was in was an originals progressive rock band called Bruce’s Spider, which is where he first met Howard. They soon found out that many of their musical interests were shared. Andy and Howard also played in a band called Madron, which is where they first met Kirk.

Andy is a keen motorcyclist and enjoys going out on ride-outs when he can. He hopes to one day get a cruiser to customise.

Kirk Watson - Bass, double-neck, 12 string Guitar, Bass pedals, Voices

Born in 1966, Kirk describes himself as: "too young to die, but slightly too old to live like he used to". With a family of twin boys, his ONE to be obeyed, and a lazy dog, it is surprising he can slip away occasionally to rehearse with bands, but has been doing so since 1984.

Bass was a natural instrument choice for Kirk, only having four fingers on his left hand. Once he graduated from the Freemans Catalogue Bass and bought a serious instrument (a 1977 black Fender Precision), he was able to stun cats at thirty paces using only an amplified E string.

Kirk has featured on a 12" single and an album (both things made of plastic a bit bigger than CD's for the younger of you out there). He has recorded at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick as well as in Simon Townshend's personal studio (brother of THAT Townshend). Following on from that he joined many other bands, but when he met Howard and Andy, they made him realise that the one thing he SHOULD be doing is learning all the Genesis back catalogue and pretending to be Mike Rutherford.

Bob - Lead Guitar, 12 String, Classical Guitar

Bob joined the band in September 2007, having split up from a Southampton based rock covers band. He first started playing guitar at boarding school, where he traded in his piano lessons with an enigmatic young chap called Harry Enfield. His first band was aptly named 'Emmy and the Bad Smells' in 1977 (when punk was all the rage). The band reached the height of coolness by being the first band to ever get banned from playing at the school again – something to do with a lot of swearing and having somewhat partially-clad young girls on stage. It was around this time that Bob discovered a passion for Genesis & soon got involved with some like-minded musicians to form another school band called 'Legend', which eventually dissolved when everyone left for university. Bob maintained a background interest in music in favour of work & family until his early 40s, when he and a friend formed a very successful rock covers band called RIFF. When the band broke up, Bob sought out other musicians who were passionate about progressive music, and joined The Book of Genesis.

The History of The Book of Genesis ... according to Andy

I decided that I would like to form a Genesis Tribute band years ago, but I needed to find musicians who were as enthusiastic as I was, so my quest began.

I started with a guitarist friend called Russell and, for months, we searched for other potential members. I had almost decided to give up as there never seemed to be a keyboard player up to the task. Then I met Howard in a band called Bruce's Spider. Naturally we got talking about music in general and found that we were both really into Genesis. I was excited to learn that Howard could play almost all of the Genesis back catalogue. I mentioned to him that I had always wanted to start a Genesis Tribute Band and, to my surprise, he said that he had once auditioned for one. I suggested that we start our own - we had the keyboards, drums and guitar in place. All we needed now was to find the rest! We talked about names for the band and came up with a few different ideas. As we had already decided to play songs from the first album right up to the last, I suggested 'The Book of Genesis'.

I then got back in touch with Russell and he confirmed that he was still very interested in the concept. We soon found a Bassist who was quite interested and then we found Nick, so the full lineup was up and running seemingly in next to no time.

Full band rehearsals took place over the next few months and then problems arose... Not long before the first gig the bass player decided to leave. Then, as the gig got closer, Nick couldn't do the gig due to unforeseen circumstances. So we ended up doing the gig with the three of us that were left: me singing and playing the drums at the same time, Howard playing keyboards and Bass parts and Russell using a double-neck Bass/Guitar. Although it went surprisingly well, it wasn't the same as the full line-up.

It then looked like it was all falling apart when Howard’s work took him to Australia for a year in September 2005. We waited for him to come back home and, on his return, we started again. But now we had a new problem: Russell's job had changed and he was now on shifts, so we lost our guitarist. And then there were three: Howard, Nick and myself.

We advertised again for a Bass Player and Guitarist. In the meantime, when Howard was away in the land of Oz, I had joined a band called Madron, where I met Kirk (Bass). I discovered that he too had an interest in Genesis music, although he had never tried to play any of it.

Howard then joined Madron. The two of us got talking to Kirk and he decided to join us. I then contacted Nick to let him know the good news. And we were off again!

A few Guitarists came and went for a while, but with no real success. Then Nick phoned me and said that he might have found someone interested in joining us to complete the line-up. Bob came along in September 2007, and blew us all away with his talents. It was just what we needed to give us a boost.

We are now fully up and running, rehearsing hard, and have started performing live. So watch this website for details of forthcoming shows.
